Man with gunshot wound prompts shelter in place alert in Hyannis neighborhood

HYANNIS — Barnstable police issued a "shelter in place" order Wednesday night for a Hyannis neighborhood after a report of a man with a gunshot wound, according to a police release.

The alert, which was also issued to area radio stations, asked residents to shelter in place in an area just south of the Cape Cod Mall between Bearse's Way and Barnstable Road.

Police responded to the area of Quaker Road at about 6:21 p.m. and found that the 32-year-old gunshot victim had left the area and was later located at Cape Cod Hospital, where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

The shelter in place alert was lifted by about 7:40 p.m. after the investigation concluded the shooting was isolated, the release said.
