Man hit, killed while standing outside of his vehicle in Cherry Valley

A driver was hit and killed by a passing vehicle Monday evening in the 4100 block of Cherry Valley Road in rural Cherry Valley.

The man who was killed was in his late 40s. His name has yet to be released.

Boone County Sheriff's deputies responded about 8:15 p.m. on a report of a two-vehicle accident on Cherry Valley Road.

Deputies said a vehicle traveling west on Cherry Valley Road was stopped on the roadway. The vehicle may have become disabled, and the driver was out of the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities said another vehicle traveling west on the road hit the vehicle and the driver.

Boone County District 2 Fire and OSF Lifeline Ambulance responded to the scene. The driver of the suspected disabled vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

Authorities have not said if any charges have been filed against the second driver.

The cause of the accident is under investigation of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
