Man hospitalized in Marlborough shortly before crews discover ‘hazardous materials’


UPDATE: The residents of the apartment complex have been let back inside the building.

After arriving at the scene of a medical emergency in Marlborough Tuesday evening, first responders transported a man in his 30′s to the hospital and labeled the area a hazmat situation that has yet to be cleared at the time of writing.

According to a statement from the Marlborough Fire Department, crews were initially dispatched to an apartment complex on Boston Post Road for a medical emergency at approximately 3:00 p.m.

While at the scene, firefighters noticed a large quantity of an unknown and unlabeled substance “resembling hazardous materials in liquid form.” The Marlborough firefighters requested additional assistance from entities such as the Marlborough Police Department and the FBI.

The other residents of the apartment complex were evacuated on Tuesday night and given rooms at a nearby hotel.

The area is expected to be stabilized sometime on Wednesday, according to the Marlborough Fire Department.
