Man hospitalized after RV fire in northern Pueblo County

A 51-year-old Pueblo County man was hospitalized after being injured with serious burns in an RV fire Monday night.

The RV fire occurred in the Wildhorse neighborhood in northern Pueblo County, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the 1400 block of Second Road just before 11 p.m. on a report of a structure fire.

When deputies arrived, they found an RV fully engulfed in flames. The victim told deputies he had justfinished cooking when the trailer burst into flames.

The man and two dogs were the only occupants of the trailer. The victim and one of the dogs were able to get out of the trailer. The second dog is believed to have died in the fire, according to the sheriff's office.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Emergency Services Bureau fire team responded, along with mutual aid from the Pueblo West Fire Department. The fire teams were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. The RV was a total loss. Three additional trailers and two vehicles on and near the property where the RV was located were also damage from the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it appears to be accidental, according to a news release from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.
