Man injured in 3-car wreck in south Thurston County has died, State Patrol says

A man who was injured in a three-vehicle wreck in south Thurston County Saturday afternoon has died, according to Washington State Patrol.

Kenneth M. Pekola, 60, of Rochester died Monday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, a State Patrol memo reads.

Olympia Federal Savings posted on its Facebook page Tuesday that Pekola was the financial institution’s vice president and commercial lending director.

According to The Olympian’s previous reporting:

About 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Pekola was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette south on Pecan Street Southwest near Rochester. Meanwhile, a 46-year-old Vancouver, Washington man was headed west on U.S. Highway 12 in a Ford F-150 pick-up truck.

State Patrol reported that Pekola entered the intersection and was struck by the truck. Troopers say the cause of the crash was a failure to yield.

Debris from the crash struck a third vehicle in the area. That vehicle’s driver, a 19-year-old Rochester man, was not hurt. The Vancouver man was injured, but was treated at the scene, according to State Patrol.

The collision blocked U.S. 12 at Pecan Street for more than four hours, according to the State Patrol.
