‘A man of integrity’: Family friend mourning 19-year-old shot, killed in Monroeville

A family friend of the 19-year-old who was shot and killed while leaving a party in Monroeville on Saturday shared his plea to the person responsible with Channel 11.

Anthony Mock said losing Aceyn Ausbrook was like losing his own child.

“Whoever did this, I pray God works on their heart,” said Mock, a longtime family friend and mentor to Ausbrook.

Just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called to Bellwood Avenue following a house party. When they arrived, they found Ausbrook suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

“Great young man, a man of integrity. It’s hard to see a young man not able to see life at its full potential,” Mock said.

A small memorial of candles and flowers now sits on Bellwood Avenue with cards that read, “Ace the sweetest most lovable person,” and “Love you forever Ace.”

Mock described him as a talented young man who enjoyed making jewelry.

“When he was 17 his mom came to me and said, ‘Anthony, Aceyn really likes his jewelry and wants to put his hand out and try it,’” shared Mock.

At that time, Mock had started a jewelry company and was working his way up in the industry when Ausbrook took a liking to creating and became his first apprentice. This year, Aceyn started his first solo piece.

“He came in, his mom’s birthday is coming up, and he said ‘I want to make something for my mom,’” Mock said.

Aceyn designed a cross with three unique jewels representing him and his two younger brothers.

The piece was finished just last week.

Mock said watching Aceyn graduate last year and then seeing him complete his mother’s cross was like watching a child blossom into adulthood.

“I know I spoke life into him, and it’s hurtful to see someone take it out like it never even existed,” Mock said.

Allegheny County police are still working to identify a suspect in Ausbrook’s death.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact them at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
