Man involved in Lincoln County crash that killed 3 previously ran from police at high speeds

Officials with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office have confirmed the identity of the suspect involved in the crash that killed three people during the weekend.

And court records show this isn’t the suspect’s first run-in with the law. He had been processed for a prior felony and posted it's $1,000 bond amount 12 hours before the crash took place.

The three people killed in the crash included Gerard Duane Muller, 20, of Parker; Kaydence Marie Nygaard, 19, of Beresford; and Collin Allen Hlavac, 18, of Irene, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Hayden Hall, 20, was initially involved in a situation where he was charged with aggravated eluding and three counts of abuse or cruelty to a minor. A warrant was issued post the filing of the indictment on Nov. 18.

The November situation began with Hall being pursued by the police for a speeding violation, where he was going at a “high rate of speed,” said Lt. Ben Lord, from the sheriff’s office. Lord said Hall was reported to have three juvenile girls in the car with him, ages 15, 16 and 17 years, while he was fleeing from authorities.

He said the girls weren’t being held against their will based on their knowledge and investigation.

Hall was listed with the bond amount of $1,000 for this case. Now Hall's bond has been set at $19,000, following Saturday's crash, where a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office stated he survived a crash that killed three people, but fled the scene.

The wreck was tied to a stolen vehicle report, which originated from a nearby farm operation, according to the sheriff’s office in a press release on Facebook.

Authorities say the deputy discovered a Dodge pickup truck that had left 291st St at 5:37 a.m. The truck struck a field approach and rolled multiple times, appearing to eject multiple occupants, four according to findings so far, they said. Two of the individuals were dead by the time the deputy arrived on the scene, while the third one died on the scene a little while later.

Authorities say the fourth occupant, Hall, appeared to have left the scene and stole a vehicle from a nearby farm operation following the crash, but law enforcement was able to locate the stolen vehicle and the individual a few hours later at a residence in Beresford. Due to his serious, but non-life-threatening injuries from the rollover incident, he was taken to an area hospital for medical attention.

Hall was later charged with underage purchase or possession of alcoholic beverages, consumption of alcohol or drugs under 21 years of age, obstructing officer, jailer, firefighter and grand theft for this case, according to court records.

His initial appreance for Saturday's incident was Dec. 12. Hall's preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 27.

Lincoln County State's Attorney Tom Wollman said they pleaded to increase Hall's bond amount from $10,000 to $20,000 in the court hearing Dec. 12. due to the fact that Hall "presents a danger to the public" and "there's a potential for him being a flight risk as well."
