Man Jailed After Driving Down Birmingham Train Tracks

British police said a man was jailed for 15 months after he was caught on CCTV driving a car down railway tracks at a station in Birmingham on May 9.

Aaron O’Halloran drove a car through a gate at Duddeston station and drove half a mile down the tracks towards Aston station, subsequently abandoning the car across the tracks and fleeing the scene, British Transport Police said.

Police officers found a mobile phone inside the car and were able to trace it back to O’Halloran.

O’Halloran was found guilty of endangering people on the railway, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and using a vehicle without insurance. He was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment and ordered to pay a surcharge of £156.

“This was an immensely dangerous and senseless act by O’Halloran which caused significant risk to passengers and damage to the railway. The sentence handed to him reflects the severity of this crime and we are thankful no one was injured as a result,” Det Insp Raymond Ascott said.

“He’ll now have plenty of time to reflect on his idiotic actions in prison,” Ascott said. Credit: British Transport Police via Storyful
