WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – A Gold Star father, someone who lost family in combat, heckled President Joe Biden during the State of the Union address Thursday night.

The man was identified as Steve Nikoui, a guest of Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.).

“Abbey Gate!” Nikoui yelled. “Second Battalion First Marine!”

Steve’s son, Marine Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, was one of thirteen service members and 170 civilians killed in an attack by a suicide bomber in 2021. The attack happened at Abbey Gate, outside Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan, during the U.S. withdrawal of troops.

Gold Star Families have criticized the Biden administration for the withdrawal plan from Afghanistan and the lack of recognition of its losses and consequences.

The White House and Democrats have pinned the withdrawal on the deal that former President Trump struck with the Taliban in 2020 in exchange for 5,000 of their members from prison.

The U.S. Capitol Police reportedly arrested Steve Nikoui, citing “D.C. Code § 22–1307 – Crowding, Obstructing, or Incommoding.”

He may have to pay a $50 fine for disrupting a session of Congress.
