Man killed, another injured in Wednesday crash on I-85 in Dinwiddie County

DINWIDDIE – State police say a North Carolina man was killed in a late-night crash Wednesday on Interstate 85.

According to a state police email, the crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. just south of the Dinwiddie courthouse exit. A sports-utility vehicle heading northbound on I-85 ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree.

Neither the driver nor his passenger was wearing seat belts, police said.

The passenger, identified as 36-year-old Stephen Brett Dellinger of Hickory, North Carolina, was killed instantly. The driver of the car, 29-year-old Noah Andrew Austin of Marion, Ohio was Medflighted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for treatment of serious injuries. At the time of publishing, his current condition was unknown.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
