Jul. 18—LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — A Petrolia, Butler County, man died early Monday morning after a one-vehicle crash in Liberty Township.

Matthew Bell, 28, was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m. by emergency room staff at AHN Grove City, said Mercer County Coroner John Libonati.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Slippery Rock Road, also known as state Route 173.

Bell died of chest and head injuries, and the death was ruled accidental.

He was thrown from the vehicle, so it's likely that he hasn't wearing a seat belt, Libonati said.

An unidentified passenger was treated at a Pittsburgh hospital for unknown injuries.

A report from state police was not immediately available.
