Man killed in early morning shooting near a Taco Bell in Hampton

A man was shot dead near a Taco Bell restaurant in Hampton early Sunday morning, police said.

Police received a call around 3 a.m. about a possible shooting in the 1000 block of West Mercury Boulevard, according to a news release. Department spokesperson Cpl. Ernest Williams said a gunshot victim was found near the fast-food restaurant.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No witnesses were present when the officers got to the scene, Williams said.

The investigation is active, and police have not identified a suspect.
