Man killed Friday in northwest Arkansas airplane crash

FAYETTEVILLE - A pilot died Friday evening when the small airplane he was flying crashed in Washington County, authorities reported.

Lewis Brant Barnes, 43, of Tontitown, died in the crash of a Beech, M35, fixed-wing, single-engine plane. The airplane crashed off N. Smokey Bear Road shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, the Washington County Sheriff's office reported.

The sheriff’s office received the report of a plane crash at 5:57 p.m. Deputies located the crash site at 6:03 p.m. and found the plane. The FAA has been notified, the sheriff's office reported.

FAA officials who will work to determine a cause.

Other agencies that responded were the Fayetteville Fire Department, Round Mountain Fire Department, Central EMS and Washington County Coroner’s Office, the sheriff's office reported.

"Please keep the family in your prayers," The sheriff's office posted on social media Friday.
