Man killed in hit-and-run while crossing Cobb County road

Cobb County police are searching for a driver who hit and killed a man crossing the street before speeding away.

Officers were called to Austell Road near Barber Road just before 1:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

They say a 49-year-old Marietta man was crossing Austell Road, but was not in a crosswalk, when a car going north down the road hit him.

Police say the man was thrown across the road by the impact of the crash.

The driver continued going north on Austell Rd. after hitting the man.

He was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash. His identity as not yet been released while his next of kin is notified.

Police say the car, which they say could be a Chevrolet, should have damage consistent with hitting a person on the front bumper, grill or hood. Investigators add that the car may have had a plastic chain design license plate frame that is now missing pieces.

Cobb police say they are still working out what led to the crash.
