A 44-year-old man died Thursday afternoon after being shot blocks from downtown Wilmington, according to Wilmington Police.
Officers were called to a red apartment building in the 1000 block of N. Madison St. just before 2:15 p.m. for reports of the shooting. There, they found Lerrie Tate badly hurt.
Tate was rushed to the hospital and died there, police said.
The shooting comes less than a day after a person was found shot in the area of 26th and Pine streets Wednesday night, according to emergency services communications. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Wilmington Police have not released information about that shooting, saying the department is working to determine whether the incident occurred in the city or elsewhere. Police will provide information if they determine it occurred in the city, the department said.
