Man killed in single-car crash in Dover, police still determining cause

Dover Police

An 83-year-old man died on Saturday from injuries sustained in a Friday evening car crash, Dover police said.

According to police, John McRae was driving a Silver Pontiac Solstice east on Persimmon Tree Lane near Persimmon Circle just before 7 p.m. when he tried to round a curve in the road.

For "unknown reasons," he was unable to navigate the curve and his car left the right edge of the road. It drove onto the grass then continued east before hitting a utility police, where it flipped onto its roof.

Dover Fire Department personnel pulled McRae from the car and rushed him to Bayhealth Hospital's Kent location. He died while being treated there.
