Man killed in South Miami-Dade shooting, police say. He was the father of a young girl

A man was fatally shot in a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood late Tuesday night, according to police.

Police were alerted to the crime via the department’s “ShotSpotter” technology that detects gunfire at a specific location, said Miami-Dade police Detective Luis Sierra.

Police identified the man as Diaunte Jovon Smith. Smith, 30, was the father of a 7-year-old girl, Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami reported.

When officers arrived at SW 222 Street and 115th Ct. in the Goulds area around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, they found a wounded man who died at the scene.

“The ShotSpotter notification was multiple rounds,” Sierra said.
