Man killed in Waterbury hit-and-run; police looking for vehicle involved

Police in Waterbury are looking for a vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run that left a 78-year-old man dead.

Officers responded about 8:44 p.m. Saturday to a report of a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian in the area of 638 Main St., according to the Waterbury Police Department.

The driver had fled the scene in a dark colored SUV, police said.

The elderly man who was hit was rushed to Saint Mary’s Hospital with life threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:59 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Police were looking to identify the vehicle, possibly a RAV4 with front end damage and are asking the public for help. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit at 203-346-3975.

The investigation was ongoing and no further information was immediately available.
