A Georgia man fatally shot his mother, grandmother and restaurant manager before turning the gun on himself Thursday morning in south Georgia, according to authorities.

The shooter was identified only as a 26-year-old man from Moultrie, the Moultrie Observer reported.

The violence began at a home in the 15,000-person town about 55 miles north of Tallahassee, Fla., according to Colquitt County Coroner C. Verlyn Brock. The shooter killed his 50-year-old mother in their shared home, then walked next door and gunned down his 74-year-old grandmother, Block told the Observer.

Authorities believe the man then traveled one mile east to a McDonald’s where he worked. Upon arrival, he fatally shot a 41-year-old woman who worked as the assistant manager, the Observer reported.

The attacker was an employee at the McDonald’s and likely shot the manager after she unlocked the door for his morning shift, according to a witness. Sabrina Holweger, who works at an adjoining optometrist’s office, knew both the victim and the suspect. She arrived to work Thursday morning to find the area crawling with police.

After fatally shooting the manager, the 26-year-old man died by suicide, Brock said.

State police at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting Moultrie police in the case.

“We are working to learn more information and track down some additional witnesses,” GBI Special Agent in Charge Jamy Steinberg said.

The GBI has been spread thin in recent days, as the violence in Moultrie came one day after an Atlanta man killed one person and wounded four others at Northside Hospital Midtown in a highly populated area of the city.

The suspect in that case, 24-year-old Deion Patterson, was captured Wednesday evening after an hours-long manhunt in and around Georgia’s capital city. Any motive for that shooting remained unclear Thursday night.

“We know that he had an appointment at the facility,” Deputy Atlanta Police Chief Charles Hampton said at a press conference. “Why he did what he did, all that is still under investigation.”
