Man Who Lost Three Toes Will Drink His Own 'Sourtoe Cocktail'

A man who lost three toes to frostbite will be "reunited" with one of them at a Yukon bar.

Toe Way!

Nick Griffiths, of Greater Manchester, England lost three of his toes to frostbite after competing in the Yukon Arctic Race in February 2018.

When he was in the hospital, he remembered a sign he saw that said, "Had frostbite? We want your toes."

So he thought "why not," and gave his toes to the Downtown Hotel in Canada's Yukon Territory.

The Alcohol In the Whiskey Should Kill Any Germs

His and other detached toes have been used to garnish the bar's "Sourtoe Cocktail," which they've served up since 1973.

But now Griffiths says he'll also drink one of these "Sourtoe Cocktails," which is just whiskey, but with his own big toe in it.

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

To be a member of the "Sourtoe Cocktail Club," you have to follow this advice:

“You can drink it fast, you can drink it slow, but your lips must touch the toe."

Terry "Toe Master" Lee, who curates the appendages, says Griffiths' toe is ready to meet its maker.

“It takes six weeks to mummify a new toe on rock salt before it’s ready to serve. We have been waiting for Nick to be first to do a shot with the new toe and make it extra special," said Lee.
