Man in medieval clothing fatally stabs two in Quebec City Halloween sword attack

A man dressed up in medieval clothing and brandishing a “katana-type" sword went on a Halloween stabbing rampage, killing two people and injuring five others injured in historic Quebec City, authorities said.

The 24-year-old man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was arrested around 1 a.m. Sunday, more than two hours after the first calls about the carnage in the capital city of Quebec, according to the CBC.

Two victims died in the bloody spree and five others were hospitalized. Their conditions were not immediately known.

“On behalf of the Quebec City police, I want to offer my sincerest condolences to the loved ones and families of the people who died today,” Quebec City police spokesperson Étienne Doyon said at a press conference early Sunday.

The suspect was also hospitalized for evaluation after he was nabbed near a local business park.

On Sunday, police hadn’t determined a motive for the attack, but tweeted “there is no indication that the suspect may have acted on motives other than personal ones.”

Quebec City Police Chief Robert Pigeon said during a press conference the assailant had no identified ties to any terrorist groups.
