No charges for man on rollerblades who evaded police on Hamilton, Ont., highway

A bizarre police chase on a highway in Hamilton, Ont., was captured on camera and proves that even when you think you’ve seen it all, you haven’t.

The video, which was originally posted on a Hamilton-based neighbourhood group by user Tiff Davies, shows a man on rollerblades quickly evading two police cars behind him. The video was captured on Lincoln Alexander Parkway on Easter Sunday morning. Davies captioned the video "can't say I've ever witnessed this before." It has been shared almost 3,000 times since it was posted on Sunday.

The man can be seen weaving along the centre pavement markings of the road, as the two cop cars follow after him. When the two police vehicles attempt to corner the man off the highway, he runs to the meridian and takes off in the opposite direction.

On social media, where the video is being re-posted, many joked that inflation and the price of gas are to blame.

Others suggested we all get a little quirkier when temperatures rise. On Facebook, user Wren Shepherd wrote: "The temperature rises the slightest degree above zero and suddenly we just forgot how to act."

Tiffanie Davies, the person who recorded the video, told CBC that the man was also rollerblading backwards and flipping off police.

Despite that, it appears the man on wheels managed to skate away without serious consequences. Hamilton police told Yahoo News Canada that the individual in question was safely located after he used a ramp to exit the highway.

"From the conversation yielded during the (highway) interaction it was apparent that a larger conversation and the attendance of a Crisis Intervention Trained officer was requested," they wrote in an e-mail.

"This was complete and the individual was not charged with any Highway Traffic Provincial Offence Notices at the time."
