Man pleads to role in drive-by shooting in Norwich

Editor's Note: Merzilas Braboy received a Certificate of Pardon from the State of Connecticut Board of Pardons and Paroles on Sept. 1, 2021. He was pardon on the four charges stemming from this incident.

A third man has pleaded guilty to his role in a Sept. 29, 2008, shooting on Broadway in Norwich.

Merzilas Braboy, 19, pleaded guilty under the Alford Doctrine on Monday to conspiracy to commit second-degree assault. He faces 16 months in prison and three years probation at his sentencing May 10 in New London Superior Court.

Under the Alford Doctrine, Braboy does not agree with all the accusations but agrees not to face the possibility of a stiffer sentence at trial.

Braboy was driving in a vehicle on Broadway when police said Corey Wynn, also a passenger in the vehicle, fired several rounds at two women. Police said it was part of an ongoing feud between the women and their boyfriends. No one was hit, but police said one of the bullets came within inches of an innocent bystander outside the Wauregan Laundromat.

Richard J. David, 22, was sentenced last week to two years in prison in connection with the shooting. Wynn, 23, of New London, who had multiple pending cases, was previously sentenced to four years in prison.
