Man pleads to taking lewd photos, child porn possession

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man has admitted to taking photos up women’s skirts without their knowledge as part of a plea agreement.

Matthew Kurtz pleaded guilty Monday to four of the criminal charges he faced — including possession of child porn and capturing images of an unclothed person — in exchange for four other counts being dismissed, court records show.

Court documents: Shirt logo helped identify man taking lewd photos

In June, a shopper at a metro Grand Rapids Walmart reported that a stranger tried to take a photo up her skirt. Deputies used the logo on the man’s shirt to track down a car dealership where he worked and identify him.

Investigators said last summer that Kurtz admitted to taking photographs and video up women’s shorts and skirts at various businesses over the course of about a year. When they searched his devices, they say, they found 17,000 images — some showing clients, co-workers, people shopping at stores and about 1,000 of the same woman. There was also child porn.

Kurtz, 32, was charged July.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 11.
