A couple got engaged at the Chelsea Flower Show today in the most scenic spot... Mark Gregory’s Welcome to Yorkshire garden.

The popular Welcome to Yorkshire garden, which was awarded a Gold medal this morning, provided the setting for Adam’s romantic marriage proposal to Rosie, with onlookers witnessing the moment. And, she said yes!

Chelsea Flower Show, held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, is the most prestigious horticultural event of the year, but it now seems to be the perfect place to pop the question. The show officially opens today (21st May) with 21st and 22nd reserved for RHS members only, and 23rd-25th for non-members.

Adam and Rosie were actually right in the middle of the garden, right by the canal lock gates when Adam went down on bended knee.

Welcome to Yorkshire, sponsors of Mark's garden, tweeted about the happy news: ‘Amazing moment as Adam asks Rosemary to marry him on our Welcome to Yorkshire garden and.... she said yes!!’

Mark Gregory’s company, Landform Consultants, who built the Welcome to Yorkshire Garden, tweeted a message of congratulations with two photos: ‘A first for us - Congratulations to Adam and Rosemary who just got engaged on the @Welcome2Yorks Garden!! She said yes!!’

The surprise proposal came just hours after Mark was awarded a Gold medal in what is his 99th garden at Chelsea. 'Each year you strive to build on the success of the previous, which after last year was no mean feat,' said Mark. 'We’re over the moon that the Welcome to Yorkshire garden has been recognised once again and couldn’t be more pleased with the result. Chelsea is always a team effort, and we’ve got a winning team, I couldn’t be prouder.'

The spectacular Welcome to Yorkshire garden follows in the footsteps Mark’s 2018 gold medal-winning garden, and captures the beauty of the county’s canals, whilst celebrating the drama of Yorkshire’s rich industrial heritage.

The atmospheric garden evokes the very essence of the county, and features authentic Yorkshire stonework, trees local to the county, flowing water and genuine canal lock gates. The aim of the garden is to inspire those who see it, to visit Yorkshire and experience the county’s beauty first hand.

Congratulations to the happy couple! It just goes to prove that at Chelsea, anything can happen...
