Robin Compton relaxed with his Siberian Huskies (and 1 Pyrenees/Husky mix) last Wednesday afternoon in front of the Bedford Rural King.

Behind him was a shelter, where he planned to stay 24 hours a day until $40,000 are raised for the White River Humane Society in a program called "Rescue Robin." Compton is giving himself 30 days to raise that amount.

Nov. 1 was Compton's first day, but this is the eighth time he's held the fundraiser, and the third year it's been at Rural King.

People can come by the site to donate or go to whiteriverhumanesociety.org. There is also a link on that site to provide Compton with a meal.

Eight of Compton's 12 dogs are staying with him.

"I have 12 dogs, 3 cats, 3 roosters, 1 hen, and 1 wife, not necessarily in that order. I have my eight furry blankets to keep me warm," he said.

Compton rescued five of his dogs after they were abandoned, and adopted two more from WRHS. One more dog was obtained from Northeast Ohio.

"I get up at 3 a.m. to cook for them (his dogs)," he said. "I feel blessed with my lifestyle. This (the fundraising) is my way of giving back."

The White River Humane Society currently has 150 cats, with space for 60, and around 80 dogs, with space for 50, so donations are especially needed given the lack of space.
