Man who ran from fiery fatal crash early Monday found by police; victim identified

Delaware State Police have found the driver of a pickup truck who they said fled on foot from a fatal crash near Smyrna after his truck caught fire early Monday.

The pickup driver is a 23-year-old man from Smyrna who police have not charged. Police continue to investigate the crash.

Police have also identified the victim of the crash as 71-year-old David Lister of Henderson, Maryland.

Through their investigation, troopers learned that a green 2012 Ford F-150 was heading east on Wheatleys Pond Road while Lister was westbound in his Lincoln Town Car just after 2 a.m. Police said it's "unclear at this time" as to which vehicle crossed the center line, but one of the vehicles left its lane, hitting the other.

Police said the front-right side of the pickup hit the front-right side of the Lincoln. The Ford then spun and rolled onto the driver's side before catching fire.

The driver then ran from the scene, police said.

The Lincoln continued on the road before leaving the pavement and hitting a utility pole. The car ultimately stopped in the grass on the side of the road.

Troopers found Lister, who was critically injured. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
