A 48-year-old Singaporean who attacked three students from the Madrasah Al Maarif Al Islamiah has been remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for further investigations.

Koh Weng Oon is currently facing three charges for his part in the attack that took place on 1 April this year.

The security officer, who committed the offences separately, is facing one charge of causing hurt in an act which was racially aggravated and two charges for committing a rash act.

Koh committed the first offence at Paya Lebar MRT station at about 7.22 am when he kicked the right thigh of a 16-year-old girl.

He committed the other two offences when he swung a plastic bag containing a 1.5-litre water bottle at two other 14-year-old students.

He attacked his second victim as she was walking on the pedestrian pavement.

Koh then swung the same bag at his third victim at the escalator of the Paya Lebar Circle Line MRT station.

The maximum penalty for racially motivated hurt is three years’ jail and a $7,500 fine.

If convicted of the other two charges, Koh could be jailed for up to one year and fined up to $5,000 each.

Koh will be back in court on 25 April.
