Man reportedly attacked by strangers at West Jordan TRAX station

WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — One man is in custody after allegedly attacking a stranger at a West Jordan TRAX station on Thursday night, Feb. 8.

According to a booking affidavit, Nasean Lee, 18, was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. He is facing one third-degree felony charge of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor charge for failure to stop at the command of law enforcement.

Police say Lee and two other men were “clearly captured” on UTA security cameras at a TRAX station located at 1127 West and 7800 South just before 8 p.m. starting a physical fight with the victim. The victim, who has only been identified as another man, had been sitting on a platform bench since before Lee and the others arrived.

“[Lee] and the other two males can clearly be seen surrounding the victim, knocking him down onto the ground and all three males are clearly seen punching and kicking the victim in the head and body area,” police reported in the affidavit.

At one point, Lee can allegedly be seen picking up the victim’s e-bike off the ground and running with it. A short time later, he reportedly drops the bike and returns to continue the alleged assault on the victim.

The victim reportedly suffered several injuries, including a major laceration to the head when he was struck four times with a glass bottle. Lee and the other two men only stopped their alleged assault when the victim pulled out a knife to begin defending himself, according to police.

Lee was later confronted by responding officers and allegedly fled after being given orders to stop. Police used the help of a West Jordan K9 to locate Lee and safely take him into custody. According to police, Lee invoked his right to counsel when officers attempted to interview him.

Police say the man was a stranger to Lee and his purported accomplices and the reason behind the attack is unknown at this time.

It is currently unclear if police made any other arrests in relation to the alleged assault.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
