Man rescued after being accidentally buried alive in Cherokee County
A man is recovering at the hospital after officials from Cherokee and Cobb County responded to a collapsed trench where the man had been buried.
Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a person trapped in a trench today around 1:30 p.m. in the area of Hilltop Lane near Woodstock in an unincorporated area of the county.

Units from around the county responded to the incident and found the man trapped in a trench and buried up to his neck.
Fire officials from Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services’ trench rescue team responded after mutual aid was requested as Cherokee officials began to stabilize the area and remove dirt around the man.

The man received medical care while trapped and monitored until he could be removed completely, which occurred around 3:45 p.m., officials said.
According to fire officials, the incident occurred as the man was performing waterproofing work on a residential basement. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was listed as stable.
