Man responsible for deadly crime spree shot, killed by police in New Carrollton, DC police say

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a man involved in a violent crime spree was shot and killed by police in New Carrollton Tuesday morning.

MPD said its officers responded to the 900 block of K St. NW in D.C. around 5:45 p.m., Monday after it received reports of a shooting there.

When officers arrived, they found that a man shot a driver during a carjacking. The man left the car and ran off after the driver got out and collapsed.

At around 7:05 p.m., officers said the same man attempted to carjacks someone in the 1000 block of 3rd St. NE near Florida Avenue in the District. He was unsuccessful and left.

About 10 minutes later, MPD said the man approached people standing outside of a car at 3rd and N streets NE where he pulled out a gun and demanded the car. Police said the man shot one of the people and took the car. The person who was shot died there.

Police said they found that car stolen from 3rd and N streets NE in D.C. abandoned in Prince George’s County.

Investigators said the man stole another vehicle in Prince George’s County. After that, he’s accused of contacting a rideshare service and stealing the SUV, a Nissan Rogue, which the driver was driving.

Around 3 a.m., a Nissan Rogue drove by an empty police cruiser. The driver fired at the vehicle striking its side door.

The Nissan Rogue eventually was located in New Carrollton where he encountered members of the New Carrollton Police Department. Police said he was shot and killed during the encounter.
