Man rushed to hospital after being shot in the abdomen in Utica

Police are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital for emergency care Wednesday afternoon in Utica.

Officers were called at 1:45 p.m. to the Michael Walsh Apartments, 1204 Gray Ave., where the victim was found in the parking lot of the apartment building suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen, police said.

The victim was transported to the St. Elizabeth Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System by the Utica Fire Department, police said.

Due to the proximity of the incident to two local schools were placed on a lockout status, which was lifted in order to facilitate dismissal.

There was no threat to the schools at any point, police said.
