Arizona man sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2022 fatal drunken driving crash

A man responsible for a drunken driving crash in November 2022 that killed one person has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and five years of supervised release.

Derwin Davis Tsosie Jr., 26, of Tuba City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Douglas L. Rayes on Monday. This comes after Tsosie pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

The crash took place on Nov. 14, 2022, on the Navajo Nation, where Tsosie is an enrolled member.

Tsosie was driving at about 135 miles per hour when he hit a car from behind, killing the driver and seriously injuring the passenger, according to a Thursday news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Arizona.

When apprehended by police, Tsosie’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at .323, more than four times the legal limit of .08. His license was suspended due to a previous DUI arrest before the crash.
