BELVIDERE — A Woodbury, Minnesota, man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Thursday for a possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance conviction in Boone County.
A car driven by Tommie M. Mays, 50, was stopped by police on Interstate 90 in July 2020. Officers recovered heroin, cocaine, other controlled substances and drug paraphernalia during the traffic stop.
Mays was found guilty of the charge during a bench trial in September.
A warrant for Mays’ arrest was issued after he failed to appear at Thursday’s sentencing hearing. He was not in custody as of Monday afternoon, Boone County State's Attorney Tricia Smith said.
Mays’ previous convictions for armed robbery and other drug offenses made him eligible for extended term sentencing.
