Man sentenced to prison for role in Counterfeit Currency Conspiracy

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — A man was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $800 in restitution for conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States.

North Carolina man pleads guilty to role in counterfeit money conspiracy in West Virginia

Jamarcus Harris, 32, of Lenoir, North Carolina, admitted to his part in a conspiracy to create and spread around counterfeit money in Southern West Virginia.

According to court documents, on October 12, 2022, Harris traveled with Crystal Wilks and Xavier Sanders and another person from North Carolina to West Virginia to pass around the fake $100 bills at businesses and establishments in Beckley, Fayetteville and Summersville.

That evening, Harris and the others rented a room at a Summersville hotel, where they were making more counterfeit bills. Harris later admitted that their process involved bleaching $1 bills, scanning a genuine $100 bill, then printing the resulting image on the bleached bills.

Wilks, 24, of Lenoir, North Carolina, and Sanders, 24, of Charlotte, North Carolina, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States.

They both currently await sentencing.
