A Satsuma man was in the Flagler County jail Thursday awaiting his transfer to state prison for sex crimes involving young girls.

Jose Yair Flores Del Angel, 22, was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation with sex offender designation.

He was adjudicated guilty on two charges of lewd or lascivious battery sex act with a victim over 12 but less than 16.

The investigation began in December 2021 when a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office school resource deputy learned of a sextortation case in which Flores Del Angel made sexual threats toward a 14-year-old student. The sheriff’s office and the Bunnell Police Department investigated and discovered a sexual relationship. They also linked Flores Del Angel to another case in Flagler County involving a 13-year-old female.

Both victims told detectives they met Flores Del Angel on a social media site where he claimed to be 17 or 18 years old.  Detectives obtained a confession from Flores Del Angel.

The sheriff’s office praised a detective involved in the case.

“This case really highlights why Detective Conrad’s soft demeanor and investigative experience is so important to the Major Case Unit, this agency, and this community,” said Major Case Unit Sgt. George Hristakopoulos.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly thanked Bunnell Police for its help as well as the prosecutors and the judge.

“We hope this brings some closure for the victims and they are receiving the counseling they need,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “… Anyone who targets our children’s vulnerability will be investigated and prosecuted to the highest extent.”
