Man sentenced for robbing five Midstate banks in four months

(WHTM) – A man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for robbing five Midstate banks in four months.

James Henderson Bryant III of Maryland was sentenced for robbing banks in Gettysburg, Hanover, Spring Grove, Dillsburg, and Carlisle in 2021.

The Department of Justice says Bryant robbed a BB&T Bank branch in Hanover of more than $3,000 months after being released from state prison after 13 years.

In August Bryant robbed two more BB&T Banks in Gettysburg and Spring Grove, threatening tellers saying he had a firearm before fleeing with cash. The following month Bryant robbed a Citizens Bank branch in Dillsburg of more than $6,200.

On October 5, 2021, Bryant was arrested after robbing a Citizens Bank branch in Carlisle. While being taken to a local hospital for medical care Bryant assaulted a corrections officer.

Bryant had been charged federally in December 2021 and pleaded guilty in January 2023.

The robberies were investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance
provided by the Pennsylvania State Police, Penn Township Police Department, Gettysburg
Police Department, York Area Regional Police Department, Carroll Township Police
Department, and the Carlisle Township Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney
Christian T. Haugsby prosecuted the case.
