Man seriously injured when his car crashed into a Guilford barn

A man was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries Tuesday after the car he was driving hit a barn in Guilford, police said.

The Guilford Police and Fire Departments responded to the crash the area of 5000 Durham Road, Chief Warren Hyatt said in an email.

The initial investigation indicates that a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Durham Road crossed over the southbound lane and struck a barn, Hyatt said in the statement. “The vehicle sustained significant damage and the lone male occupant was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.”

The regional South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit was called in to assist the Guilford Police Department in the investigation, the chief said.

Durham Road remained closed between Great Hill Road and Bluff View Drive at around 6 p.m., the chief said.
