Man seriously injured following collision with Chesapeake police vehicle

A man is being treated for “severe” injuries after a collision between a van and a Chesapeake police vehicle that was responding to a call Saturday morning, the department said in a news release.

An officer was responding to a “high priority” call around 10:30 a.m., police said. As they approached the intersection of Great Bridge Boulevard and the Dominion Bridge ramp, the officer and a van with two occupants collided.

A man, who was not driving, was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver, a woman, is being treated for minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. The nature of the call the officer was responding to at the time of the collision is unclear.
