Man shot after armed robbery at ATM machine in Sauget. Local and state police investigating

A man was shot in the arm after officers attempted to stop a vehicle that had been connected to an armed robbery Friday on Mississippi Avenue, Sauget Police Chief James Jones said.

The robbery happened at an ATM at the MotoMart convenience store, Jones said. A man was at the ATM machine when an armed person robbed him, Jones said.

“The suspect entered a black vehicle and the driver traveled north on Route 3,” the chief said.

“Police officers observed the vehicle and attempted to stop it . The driver fled to the area of 26th and Ridge Avenue in East St. Louis. The four occupants inside of the vehicle bailed out of the vehicle.”

Jones said shots were fired, and one person was struck in the arm. The wound is not life-threatening, the chief said.

It is not clear who fired the shot that struck the man.

“The incident is being investigated by Sauget Police and Illinois State Police,” Jones said. “No further details can be released at this time.”
