Man shot on Joplin's Main Street in serious condition
Apr. 2—A man shot Monday night on Main Street was hospitalized in serious condition, and Joplin police on Tuesday said they are looking for the suspected shooter.
A 911 call at 8:18 p.m. Monday alerted authorities to the shooting in the area of 18th and Main streets, according to a police statement. EMS personnel rendered immediate aid to the shooting victim and then transported him to Mercy Hospital Joplin.
Early in the investigation, officers received information that the suspect may have fled to the 1500 block of South Wall Avenue. In continuing the search, they obtained information that resulted in obtaining a search warrant for 1515 S. Wall Ave.
The warrant was served by officers who were assisted by members of the department's SWAT team, activated because of the shooting and the threat of firearms, according to the police statement.
It was later determined that the suspect was not present at the Wall Avenue address.
Detectives then took over the investigation, which remained active Tuesday.
The suspect is described as a man in his 30s with short black hair, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds.

Joplin police Chief Richard Pearson was quoted in the statement as saying, "I want the public to know this was an isolated incident between people known to each other and there is no general threat to the public at this time."
No further information about the victim, including his identity, is being released at this time.
