A 23-year-old man was shot and killed by people firing from a vehicle in East Akron on Tuesday afternoon, according to Akron police and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

The medical examiner's office said in a news release Wednesday morning that the man was outside a residence in the 1100 block of Tarson Terrace when people in a vehicle fired multiple shots at him shortly before 4:30 p.m.

The office later identified the victim as Akron resident Ronald Turner, 23. An autopsy determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso and manner of death is homicide.

Akron police officers said they found Turner lying on the ground in a field on Tarson Terrace with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he died at 4:48 p.m.

Police said Wednesday that at least two unknown people were involved and fled, leaving behind "dozens" of shell casings. Two nearby apartments were struck by gunfire during the incident, police said.
