Man shot outside Wilkinsburg AutoZone

Police are investigating after a man was shot outside of the AutoZone in Wilkinsburg.

According to Allegheny County 911, police and EMS crews were called to the 200 block of Lincoln Highway at around 11:15 a.m.

Witnesses at the scene tell Channel 11 the victim was working on a car when he was shot multiple times.

A detective told Channel 11 that the victim was shot three or more times and the suspect got away on foot. The suspect is described as being 6 feet, 2 inches tall, husky and in dark clothing.

Witness William Anderson said he pulled into AutoZone just after the shooting and knows the victim, who does mechanic work as a side job.

“He was just trying to earn a little extra money to feed his family, doing what he does, a little side mechanic work, and it’s just sad a situation happens like that.”

The victim was working on Frank Takaud’s Honda Pilot.  Frank told Channel he’s known him for decades, and they were both inside of the vehicle when the gunman opened fire.

“I’ve known him for 25 years.  Good guy,” Takaud said. “I was sitting next to him, all of a sudden ‘boom boom boom’ three times.  I felt it in my face.  He shot through the glass.”

Anderson said he worried for the AutoZone employees.

“The employees found the person shot, had to dial 911, give assistance... they’re not trained for that, definitely not paid,” he said.

The detective said it’s possible the suspect got into a gray truck close to Wendy’s.

The victim is currently listed in critical condition.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
