Man shot after Sunday worship service at South Holland Community Center

A member of the Love & Deliverance International Ministries was shot Sunday after leaving a worship service at the South Holland Community Center.

Pastor Pirsia Allen said Love & Deliverance International Ministries members were visiting another parish service held at the South Holland Community Center, 501 E. 170th St., and the shooting occurred after services ended around 12:30 p.m. and people were in the parking lot talking.

A man standing near Allen’s vehicle was shot in the left shoulder, Pirsia Allen said, declining to name the victim.

“Our members were going to our vehicles and an unknown vehicle drove up and started shooting at someone else,” Allen said. “As we were running to get cover, he was running to get cover but he was struck in the left shoulder.”

Pirsia Allen said he was with his wife, Apostle Corine H. Allen, talking with another couple at the time. He said he heard about 20 gunshots.

South Holland officials released a statement saying an argument between two people led to a shooting in the community center parking lot. The statement said a bystander was shot and taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.

Illinois State Police responded to the scene, according to the statement.

Corine Allen said it was difficult to watch someone she knew getting caught in the crossfire of a shooting.

“Yesterday I had to be strong for everybody, so it’s hitting me today,” Allen said. “We believe God is going to pull him through.”

Police ask anyone with information on the shooting to contact detectives at 708-331-3131, Ext. 2.
