The boy, 8, was a patient in the pediatric intensive care unit at Akron Children's Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said, adding that the hospital does not release details about a patient's condition.

She said his 13-year-old sister, who the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported was also taken to the hospital, was not listed as a patient. No additional information was available.

A Summa Health System spokesman said Donald Robinson Jr., 35, was listed as a patient at Summa's Akron Campus.

A GoFundMe page has been set up at to help pay medical expenses for the boy and funeral expenses for his brother, Donald Robinson III, 11. More than $18,000 toward a $50,000 goal had been raised as of Monday afternoon.

The highway patrol said the single-vehicle crash happened when the southbound 2008 Infiniti QX56 the older Donald Robinson was driving went off the right side of Sunnybrook Road and struck an embankment at about 7:44 a.m. Friday.

The SUV then rolled over several times, and all four occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The younger Donald Robinson was pronounced dead at Akron Children's Hospital.

The highway patrol said speed was believed to be a factor in the crash and none of the vehicle's occupants were wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.

Donald Robinson III was a Field Middle School student; his sister and brother are also Field students.

Brimfield Police Chief Roy Mosley posted on the police department's Facebook page on Saturday that Donald Robinson III was a youth varsity football player and his brother is a youth JV football player.

"There simply are no words that can sufficiently express our sorrow," Mosley wrote in the post. "On behalf of all of us at BPD, we send our heartfelt condolences to the Robinson family and to everyone affected by this terrible incident."
