Man stabbed employee Wednesday at The Banquet in Sioux Falls, police say

Officials with the Sioux Falls Police Department responded to a stabbing at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Banquet east of downtown Sioux Falls.

Department spokesperson Sam Clemens said the situation happened between a person who came into The Banquet and an employee who was working in a security role. The suspect was asked to leave the establishment by the employee, since he was not following the rules. This led to a bit of a dispute, Clemens said.

The suspect initially left but came back a short while later. At this point, Clemens said the employee went to confront him and let him know he was not allowed to be there anymore.

This is when the suspect threatened him and swung at the victim. Clemens said the employee later discovered he had two different stab wounds on his back, not realizing the man had a knife.

The employee was taken to the hospital for injuries said to be non-life-threatening. Clemens said.

The suspect was found near the establishment by the police when he took off running, leading to a short foot pursuit, Clemens said. When he was taken into custody, he made comments about a medical issue unrelated to the incident. He was was also taken to an area hospital.

Clemens said the suspect’s name is not being released at this time because he is still at the hospital undergoing medical treatment.
