Man struck, killed by car while walking on Highway 46 in Paso Robles

A pedestrian was fatally struck by at least one vehicle while walking on Highway 46 in Paso Robles on Wednesday evening.

According to a Paso Robles Police Department news release, police received reports around 6:49 p.m. of a pedestrian walking in traffic on the highway west of Buena Vista Drive.

Soon after, several 911 calls came in reporting a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the same location, according to the release.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered an adult male victim dead in the roadway. It was apparent the victim had been struck by a moving vehicle, according to the release.

Police say the man, whose identity is not yet being released pending notification of next of kin, seems to have been walking in the westbound lane of traffic for an unknown reason when he was struck by a westbound passenger vehicle.

Two other vehicles, also traveling westbound, attempted to avoid the man and may also have struck him, according to the release.

Traffic was being diverted away from the area late Thursday evening.

Police say it does not appear as though drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

The crash is under investigation by the Paso Robles Police Department’s Traffic Unit, with assistance from California Highway Patrol and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

The department is asking those with information to contact police at 805-237-6464.
