Man struck and killed by NJ Transit train coming from Bay Head near Spring Lake station

SPRING LAKE−A pedestrian was struck and fatally injured by an NJ Transit train late Thursday just south of the borough train station, transit officials said.

The North Jersey Coast Line train 4398 had left Bay Head at 11:34 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Long Branch at 12:13 a.m., NJ Transit spokeswoman Anjali Hemphill said.

The collision occurred at 11:50 p.m. near where the tracks cross Ocean Road, Hemphill said. Their were six people on board at the time, none injured, she said. It was the last train from Bay Head to Long Branch for the day.

The man's name has not been released since next of kin have not been notified, she said.
