UPDATE: Man struck by semi; connected to previous crash on I-75 moments eariler

A man who was hit and killed Wednesday night on I-75 was the suspected driver in a crash minutes before in Miami Township.

Wednesday night, The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified Jerry Sprinkle, 50, Middletown, as the pedestrian struck and killed by a tractor-trailer.

A spokesperson with The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed to News Center 7 Thursday that Miami Township police were looking for a vehicle tied to reckless driving and was involved in a rear-end crash on I-75 around Austin Boulevard Wednesday night.

The driver who caused the crash ran from the scene, and Miami Township police were looking for that driver. After the initial crash, a fatal pedestrian crash was reported about a mile away.

During the initial investigation, troopers did not know why Sprinkle was on the highway. However, troopers were able to confirm Sprinkle was the driver that caused the accident around Austin Boulevard.
