A Desert Hot Springs man died early Saturday after being assaulted with what sheriff's deputies described as a deadly weapon.

Deputies first responded to a call about a man who had been assaulted in the 69500 block of Dillon Road near the intersection with Johnson Road, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Department. Multiple mobile home parks and neighborhoods are located in the unincorporated area southeast of the city near Desert Edge.

Upon arrival, deputies found 32-year-old Solwyn Nelson with what were described as traumatic injuries. The release did not provide specific details about where Nelson was found or his injuries.

Nelson was transported to a hospital, where he later died. His death is being investigated as a homicide, but no arrests have been made. The release did not say if deputies had determined what kind of weapon was used in the assault.
